Measuring Social Media Buzz Via Google Trends Labs

Wondering what is happening with the popularity of social media sites? A great way to take a look at the buzz surrounding these sites is to look at how often their names are being searched on Google. Google’s Trends Labs allows you to compare the popularity (search volume) of terms in the same chart. While numerous sources can tell you that Twitter has gained tremendous popularity this year, the visual representation of Myspace vs. Twitter vs. Facebook in the chart below provides an excellent directional understanding of the buzz surrounding these sites.
